Why Locals Love Taqueria Diana
Nestled in the bustling heart of New York City at 524 9th Ave, Taqueria Diana serves up an authentic and vibrant Mexican dining experience that effortlessly captures the essence of traditional flavors with a modern twist. This cozy Mexican restaurant is a beloved local gem known for its friendly atmosphere and thoughtfully prepared dishes that promise both comfort and excitement for your palate.
At Taqueria Diana, the menu is crafted with care, featuring standout items like the Pollo Nachos—a delightful combination of fresh, crisp chips smothered in melted Monterrey Jack cheese, accompanied by creamy guacamole, tangy crema, smoky salsa, pickled escabeche, and succulent roast chicken. For those who crave a hearty bite, the Carnitas Nachos fuse the same fresh ingredients with tender, slow-cooked pork, creating a dish bursting with rich, savory depth.
The burritos here are worth their weight in gold. The Carne Asada Burrito packs marinated steak, rice, beans, and cheese into a warm flour tortilla, making every bite a satisfying and flavor-packed experience. Equally tempting is the %Carnitas Burrito, filled with tender pork and fresh accompaniments, giving a perfect balance of savory and creamy textures. Vegetarians or those seeking lighter fare will appreciate the Rice & Beans Burrito, a simple yet fulfilling choice.
For those looking to keep things light without compromising on flavor, the fresh salads—such as the Carne Asada Salad or Pollo Salad—feature crisp romaine, radishes, and carrots tossed with spiced pepitas and Cotija cheese, all dressed in a zesty red wine vinaigrette. It’s a refreshing, vibrant counterpoint to more indulgent options, layering textures and tastes that feel both nourishing and satisfying.
Despite its intimate size, Taqueria Diana boasts a charming, inviting ambiance that feels like a welcoming neighborhood spot. With just a handful of bar seats, it’s perfect for solo diners craving great food and drink, or couples and small groups eager for a cozy, low-key outing. Regulars and newcomers alike appreciate the personable service and the relaxed vibe that encourages lingering conversations over delicious food.
Speaking of drinks, the margaritas deserve a special mention. As Mario Montenegro noted, the Strawberry Margarita strikes a perfect balance—just the right amount of sweetness paired with the warmth of alcohol, making it easy to savor one after another. Mike Paszkiewicz highlights the fantastic house-made salsas, especially the roja, which is fruit-forward with a lively kick, complementing the guacamole and elote (Mexican street corn) that are not to be missed.
Customer reviews consistently praise the quality and authenticity of the dishes. Visitors from afar, like Helen Marquis from California, find themselves pleasantly surprised by how well Taqueria Diana satisfies cravings for true Mexican flavors right in NYC. Shae R’s experience of a calm Sunday night spot with perfectly seasoned al pastor encapsulates the restaurant’s ability to offer a little escape from the city’s hustle, making it a perfect spot to unwind.
In an area where reasonable pricing can be hard to find, Taqueria Diana stands out not only for its flavorful and hearty portions but also for its excellent value. As one reviewer put it, the combination of fast, friendly service and generous servings makes it a must-visit when in the neighborhood.
Whether you’re seeking a quick bite before catching your bus or a relaxed dinner accompanied by well-crafted cocktails, Taqueria Diana delivers a genuinely satisfying and authentic taste of Mexico in the heart of New York City. Its carefully curated menu, warm hospitality, and vibrant flavors make every visit feel special.

Stopped by here the other night on my way to the bus terminal. Spot is very small, but in a cute way. You cant really come here with a big party though. But i was there to sit at the bar anyway, which was like 4 seats lol. Ordered a Strawberry Margaritas it was really good, not too sour, taste the alcohol but it was just a bit sweet. It was good enough for me to order another and it wasnt as sweet, which was nice lol. Service was attentive and staff was available. It was only one team member there but he seemed to be holding down the fort. Can't speak on the food, but the drinks are good!

Excellent taqueria with delicious food. I was visiting from California and missing Mexican food and was very impressed with the quality here. I got Carne Asada Tacos, and they were packed with tasty fillings. Staff were super friendly. Great spot!

Event time I'm in the city, Taqueria Diana is a necessary stop. The restaurant cozy, with a great neighborhood vibe and extremely reasonable prices. I have yet to have a dish I didn't like, and their margaritas are fantastic. If you like salsa, theirs is house made. The roja it's a little fruity with a nice kick of great. The guacamole doesn't disappoint, and the elote is fire (ask for it off the cob). My favorite tacos are the carnitas and al pastor, but if you don't eat pork, the chicken and beef options are also delicious. If you are hungry, go for one of their plates. Last night I tried the roast chicken for the first time and I'm not sure I'll need to eat at all today, it was a MEAL.

Very chill on a Sunday night. The host was nice and the food was tasty and well-seasoned. I got the plate with al pastor and definitely recommend it. I was surprised it was so quiet inside but it was a great option to unwind after a busy Sunday.

I forgot to take a photo as it got served! I promise it looks much yummier when you first get it lol. Service is great and fast as well. It's hard to find anything reasonably priced in this area but the price and portion are great. Very filling. Will come back again if I'm ever in the area

We are a 3 member family who came to this restaurant for dinner. We were very well adviced by the waitress regarding the number of plates since the size of the portions is big. Following her advice, we ordered nachos with carnitas, quesadilla with chicken and burrito with carne al pastor. Everything was really tasteful. The machos were the best I never tried. The place is quiet with nice Mexican music and the service is very friendly. Definitely I recommend this place!
